Gartner's latest report, Predicts 2026: AI Agents Will Transform IT Infrastructure and Operations, reveals a staggering figure: by 2029, 70% of enterprises will deploy AI agents in IT infrastructure operations—up from less than 5% in 2025.
This isn't incremental improvement; it's a paradigm shift. Traditional ops teams write scripts and operate CLIs manually. In the Agentic AI era, AI agents will possess the ability to plan, execute, and continuously optimize autonomously—translating natural language intent directly into infrastructure actions.
Gartner notes that Agentic AI will push I&O leaders to redefine team structures. Future ops personnel won't execute tasks one by one—they will: set policies, review agent behavior, and ensure compliance and security.
Humans move from "operators" to "supervisors." Enterprises must build governance frameworks that keep agents operating within controlled boundaries while maintaining auditability and transparency.
Gartner emphasizes: for Agentic AI to truly land, it must be backed by robust orchestration platforms. Agent decisions need to connect to real execution layers (network, cloud, ITSM, security), complete with guardrails, approval workflows, and visibility tracking.
